dc.description.abstractPeanut (Arachis hypogeae Linn) is one of the most important leguminous crop cooked for snacks, oil production and very high in protein. Thus, a study on the performance of eight peanut entries (V1-IPB Pn 89-20-42, V2 - CV Pn 02-073, V3-CV Pn 02-075, V4-CV Pn 02-0132, V5-CV Pn 02-127, and the three check varieties V6-NSIC Pn 11 (NC), V8-Native pink (LC), was conducted to determine which among the peanut entries are high yielding and acceptable in terms of seed color, seed size and eating quality. The study was conducted employing the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD), in four blocks at the Experimental Farm of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, North La Union Campus, Bacnotan, La Union from November 15, 2005 to February 25, 2006. Based on the findings of the study CV Pn 02-0132 significantly out yielded the other peanut entries with fresh pod yield of 4400.00 kg/ha, dried pod yield of 2880.00 kg/ha and bean yield of 1847.42 kg/ha and heaviest 100 seeds(85.00 g) comparable to CV 02 073 and 075. The r bean yield were of acceptable color (pinkish to tan), seed size (medium). The shape of the seeds was from oblong to oblong with flat ends and the quality of seeds was rated “good”.
