Abstract
This study determined the following: larvicidal and residual efficacy of the powdered Chromolaena odorata and Lantana camara leaves against common houseflies; fly density reduction efficacy of powder against common houseflies; and abiotic parameters that may influence the efficacy of the powder.
Manure breeding sites were chosen, twenty grams of the powder were broadcasted over the area, dead larvae were counted after 24 and 48 hours for larvicidal efficacy and again day 7 and 14 for the residual efficacy.
The modified scudder grill was used to estimate the fly density treated by thorough spraying to the experimental sites.
Results revealed that larvicidal, residual efficacy and fly density reduction of L. camara is more effective than C. odorata against common housefly. High protein and sugar content diet and location affects the efficacy of the powder in controlling housefly larvae.
