Item Profiling of the Beekeeping Industry: Status of Beekeeping in Region 1 and Cordillera Administrative Region(DMMMSU, 2022-12-01) Pajarillo, Rolyne Mae C.; Masiong, Pablo L.; de Castro, David T.; Soliba, Mishima P.; Panas, Joseph A.; Acosta, Mac Donald C.Beekeeping is a viable agribusiness enterprise of small scale farmers, and other rural and non-rural people. Despite the many returns bees give including the increasing industry stakeholders and trained beekeepers, local honey production remains very low; hence, this study was conducted to determine the profile and status of bee enterprises in Region 1 and CAR. Demographic profile, level of motivation along the STEEP factors, and enterprise profile, were gathered employing semi-structured questionnaire. Interviews and secondary data were also employed. Results revealed that majority (78.95%) belong to the working age population (21-60 years old). There were more male (75.44%) and married (78.95%) beekeepers but women participation (24.56%) was also observed. Beekeepers had a relatively high literacy rate and 98.1% completed bee trainings. More than half (68.42%) were officers/members of community organizations but they were just part-time beekeepers because they had other/main source of family income. Environmental influences e.g., vegetation, were “very highly motivating factors in engaging to. Apiary sites conformed to standards of location appropriateness and resources availability, and all beekeepers practiced migration for higher honey production. They had total colony holdings of 1,097.5 standard (10-framer), with an average of 27.44 colonies each. This classified them as commercial beekeepers based on the Philippine National Standards. Lowland and upland honey flows fall in April to May and October to December. An analogous process flow of honey harvesting, processing and storing was confirmed. Start-up investment is ₽22,010.00. Average yearly operational expense per standard colony incurred by lowland beekeepers from 2000 to 2019, was ₽19,367.84 which is a little higher than the upland costs due to land and truck rental, and labor fees during migration and production periods. CAR beekeepers had a higher ROI of 20.02% than those in Region 1 with 4.39%. Natural environmental harms i.e., bee-eater predator birds, typhoons, were on top of the reasons why beekeepers discontinued their apiculture projects.Item PLC Based Prepaid Purified Water Drinking Station(DMMMSU, 2022-12-01) Marquez, Larry D.PLC based prepaid purified drinking water station was designed and developed to address the safe distribution of purified drinking water at a reasonable cost to the end users and helped reduce the increasing number of solid wastes brought by used plastic bottles. The design of the machine was in accordance with the standard specifications of a water dispenser. The machine was fabricated using high grade stainless steel and food grade PVC water pipes. The evaluation of the machine underwent several trials to meet the desired volume of water. Dispensing of 250ml purified water will be attained by inserting the validated peso coin to the coin acceptor. The preset time for every transaction is four seconds. Overall dimensions of the machine are 60x52x16 inches equipped with 4 mini water pumps, a controller and four gooseneck faucets. The performance of the machine satisfies the perception of the evaluators. The design was based on the standards of a water vending machine and the desired volume of water to be dispensed was met.Item Awareness And Prevalence of Needle Stick Injury Among Nurses in the District Hospitals of La Union(DMMMSU, 2022-12-01) Zamudio, Led Karen R.Needle stick injuries (NSI) were recognized as one of the world's most common health risks. In the pursuit of their daily tasks in the health care setting, nurses were at high risk of occupational accidents and injury. The study was conducted to assess the needle stick injury among nurses in district hospitals in La Union. Specifically, it sought to evaluate the awareness of nurses regarding needle stick injury; to describe the prevalence of needle stick injury among nurses in La Union District Hospitals; and to review existing district hospital protocols on the management of needle stick injury. Frequency counts and percentage were used to analyze the data. Nurses were aware on needle stick injury. There was a high prevalence of needle stick injury due to recapping for the past five years. District hospitals had protocols guided by the World Health Organization and Department of Health on Needle Stick Injury.Item Effectiveness of the Implementation on “No Segregation, No Collection” Measures (Bacnotan MO No. 481 s. 2014 CII S7): The Case of DMMMSU Adjacent Barangays(DMMMSU, 2022-12-01) Badua, Rowena T.This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the implementation of the “No Segregation, No Collection” measures. A descriptive, correlational, and developmental designs were used in this study with 235 respondents of the DMMMSU NLUC adjacent barangays—Sapilang, Casiaman, and Arosip. It employed an adapted and an enhanced questionnaire concerning the effectiveness of the implementation of the “No Segregation, No Collection” measures and their awareness and practices. Data were gathered, analyzed, and interpreted using frequency, percentage distribution, and correlation analysis. Results showed that few of the respondents were in their late 30’s, a great majority were females, many were college graduates, many have an income of Php 5,000 and below, and many have a household size of 5. Moreover, the respondents were moderately aware on solid waste management on collection and transportation, and on practices in reduce, reuse and recycle, and highly aware on practices in terms of segregation. The household exhibited a very high level of awareness of the “No Segregation, No Collection” measures. The household size significantly influenced the level of awareness on solid waste management.Item Multifaceted Teaching Pedagogies of Elementary Education Instructors in the Philippines: A Locus Classicus KAP (Knowledge-Attitudes-Practices) Approach(DMMMSU, 2022-12-01) Aban, Jomar L.In the present technological age, concerned stakeholders should innovate pedagogical approaches to achieve authentic learning. Four commonly used teaching pedagogies are presented in this study: lecture method, cooperative learning, inquiry-based learning, and learning with emphasis on communication skills. The level of awareness, attitudes and utilization of these four common teaching pedagogies by Bachelor in Elementary Education (BEEd) faculty members were explored using an educational-descriptive-quantitative approach. Results show that respondents are highly aware of inquiry-based learning but are only moderately aware of lecture method, cooperative learning and learning with emphasis on communication skills. The faculty respondents have the most positive attitude on cooperative learning compared to the other three pedagogies. Contrary, the utilization of the four pedagogies in teaching are comparable. Although lecture method is the least preferred method, it is still commonly used because of its practicability in terms of class size, and convenience to the teacher. The other three pedagogies are also considered and moderately practiced. The proposed synergistic pedagogical model is formulated to intertwine the captured awareness, attitudes and practices of the BEEd faculty members on the four commonly used teaching pedagogies.
