Publication Parental absence and emotional quotient among college students(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-Mid La Union Campus, 2017-12) Jucutan, Patricia Olive A.; Collado, Mary Joy B.; Oriel, Jenny Rose H.; Dumaguin, Renz Arvin C.Rapid increase of Filipino parents leaving the country and their families for better job opportunities abroad has been happening for the past years affecting the emotional quotient of their children left behind. This paper analysed the degree of influence of parental absence, emotional quotient and the relationship between the parental absence and emotional quotient among college students of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University Mid La Union Campus. Descriptive correlational design was used in the analysis of data for the 210 respondents. A compendious review of literatures was used to cross-validate and provide interpretations for the data gathered. Student-respondents strongly agreed with all the aspects of parental absence. Correspondingly, students had a “high emotional quotient" on the facets of determining the level of emotional quotient. Study concludes that there is a significant relationship between the influence of parental absence and the level of emotional quotient. A guidance intervention program was designed to help the left-behind students cope with their situation.Item Psychosocial needs of students of don mariano marcos memorial state university-mid la union campus: basis for guidance intervention program(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2015-03) Dumaguin, Renz Arvin C.Students show unfavorable attitudes toward their studies. This study assessed the psychosocial needs of students of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University — Mid La Union Campus It looked into the profile of the students which were correlated to find the significant relationship of the identified variables. The descriptive research method was used with the questionnaire as the data gathering tool. There were 381 respondents from the five colleges in the Campus. Frequency counts, percentages, rank order, weighted means and Pearson Moment of Correlation were the statistical tools employed. Findings showed that the profile of the respondents is diverse; the four areas under the psychological needs together with the six indicators under social needs are recognized as much of a need. This research contested to identify the specific road accidents that police officers respond to that impacted them, including their psychological traumas and coping mechanisms. Researchers used qualitative research design employing a phenomenological approach. The study's respondents included sixteen (16) police officers from the Municipalities of La Union. Findings showed vehicle collision as the specific type of road accident the police officers responded to. Police officers' psycho traumatic experiences had an impact on their actions, emotions, cognition, and physical health. In addition, police officers also used problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping, social coping, religious coping by praying, and meaning-making through mind-setting as their strategies for addressing their psycho-traumatic experiences. With this, the present study seeks to find the purpose of drinking coffee in social relationships, how it fosters intimacy, strengthens relationships, and the feelings elicited when drinking coffee with someone. The study employed a qualitative phenomenological research design and used a face-to-face semi-structured interview with a total of 10 coffee drinkers within the province of La Union as the respondents. Results showed that the purpose for drinking coffee depends on the personal view of each individual; coffee fosters intimacy by increasing closeness and creating a comfortable space; coffee strengthens social relationships by building an emotional connection and as a catalyst for social interaction; and respondents felt happiness, comfort, and relaxation while drinking coffee. It is evident in the study that coffee drinking is used as a social activity that fosters intimacy, strengthens relationships, and creates positive feelings when drinking coffee with companions
