The relationship of the emotional quotient to some identified variables SY 2001-2002
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2002-03) Doctolero, Theresa G.; Trisinio, Lerma P.
This study entitled "The Relationship of the Emotional Quotient to Some Identified Variables SY 2001-2002" was a descriptive nonnative survey, which made use of a questionnaire checklist in gathering the needed data. It made use of a four point scale, which was assigned as very well, moderately well, a little and not at all. The respondents of the study were the fourth year Psychology students of DMMMSU-SLUC; Agoo, La Union. The study sought to answer the following questions: 1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of sibling position, socio-economic status and Intelligence Quotient? 2. What is the Emotional Quotient of the respondents? 3. Is there a significant relationship between the respondents EQ and the respondents IQ, socio-economic status and sibling position? The study made use of the micro statistics sofware for the comparison of data. Specifically the correlation matrix was used to test the null hypothesis that "there is no significant relationship between the respondent's EQ and the respondents IQ, socioeconomic status and sibling position. The frequency percentage, and weighted mean were also used. The study came out with the following conclusions: 1. a. 17 respondents are the eldest in their family, 37 in the middle and 13 are the youngest. b. 4 have a high SES, 49 have average SES, and 14 have a low SES. c. 1 has a superior IQ, 4 with above average IQ, 35 belong to the average group, 24 have below average IQ, and 3 with a borderline IQ. 2. The computed average weighted mean of the EQ of the respondents is 2.85, which falls under moderately well. 3. There is a low negative correlation that exists between Intelligence Quotient and internationality. There is a significant relationship that exists between Intelligence Quotient and internationality having a correlation of -.24868 which is higher than the critical value of .24026. Therefore the null hypothesis is rejected. As stated by Goleman (1995)... there is a slight correlation between intelligence quotient and some aspects of emotional intelligence - though small to make clear these are largely independent entities. There is a low negative correlation that exists between Intelligence Quotient and creativity. There is a significant relationship that exists between Intelligence Quotient and Creativity having a correlation of -.25464 which is higher than the critical value of .24026. Therefore the null hypothesis is also rejected. Intelligence Quotient and some aspects of emotional quotient has significant relationship (Goleman, 1995).
