    Risk management practices of mirco-enterprises in selected municipalities of Ilocos Sur

    This study was conducted to 1) determine the socio-economic profile of the micro-entrepreneur, 2) determine the enterprise’s profile, 3) assess the risk taking attitude of the respondents, 3) identify the correlation of education, age, gender, and capitalization to risk taking attitude of the respondents, 4) assess the risk of the enterprise in terms of probability and severity, 5) identify the risk management practices of the enterprises, and 6) recommend mitigating factor to reduce the identified risk. The data were gathered through personal interview with the aid of questionnaire from the 120 micro-entrepreneurs who were selected using the purposive random sampling and were drawn from 6 selected municipalities of Ilocos sur. These were analyzed through frequency counts, average percentage, and weighted mean and statistical tool for analysis. The findings revealed that almost majority of the respondents were from the age bracket of 31-40 years old. Majority were females, and an average of 3.28 numbers of children. Most of them were high school graduate and had some college background. As to enterprise profile, most of the micro-enterprises were engaged in retail business with an average of 7.7 years of operation. Most of the respondents prefer multirole as the owner manager while others hired personnel. As to source of capital of the micro-enterprise, most of them primarily invest from their personal savings and from their family and friends. Some of them invested through partnership. Findings showed that most of the respondents are moderate risk taker and some of them were cautious. Findings also revealed that majority of the respondents were moderately aware about the risk management. As to areas of risk and its severity and probability, majority of the respondents had find it unlikely or assume it will not be happen and negligible. As to risk management practice, majority of them practiced risk avoidance, risk reduction and risk sharing.
