    Stenographers’ competencies in the trial courts of District 1 municipalities of La Union

    This study aimed to find out the Stenographers' Competencies in the Trial Courts of District 1 Municipalities of La Union. It specifically looked into the profile of the court stenographers, level of competencies of court stenographers along shorthand skills, communication skills, legal management skills, organizational skills, and time management skills. A training program was formulated to enhance the level of stenographers’ competencies in the Trial Courts of District 1 Municipalities of La Union. Using the descriptive type of research, the researcher made questionnaire was validated to the experts, reliability test was carried out to measure the internal consistency of the instrument, and an informal interview to substantiate the data and information gathered, the study resulted to the following: First, that court stenographers are competent in terms of the level of competencies along legal management skills, organizational skills and time management skills since they were rated excellent. Second, there are problems along shorthand skills and communication skills since they were rated very satisfactory. Lastly, there is no significant difference on the level of competencies of court stenographers as perceived by the court stenographers and as assessed by the clerk of courts along shorthand skills, communication skills, legal management skills, organizational skills and time management skills. Training program was formulated to address the need of the court stenographers from the problems that were seen.
