Status of smoked fish enterprise in province of La Union
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University- North La Union Campus, 2024-05) Villanueva, Myles Angel B.
This study was conducted to determine the (1) respondents' demographic profile, (2) production and marketing strategies, (3) financial practices of local smoked fish enterprises, and (4) problems and opportunities in smoked fish enterprises. The data were gathered through questionnaires and personal interviews from twelve (12) registered smoked fish producers chosen from the seven (7) municipalities of La Union. Findings revealed that the majority (58.3%) of the respondents were female and had an average age of 49. Producers identify lack of government support, limited raw materials (smoking materials), poor quality of raw materials, high cost of inputs, and rainy season as significant issues. In marketing, the high competition was identified as a problem. The proposed action plan includes areas of concern, strategies, persons involved, and resources for its implementation. Action plans will help increase the chances of success in the smoked fish business.
