Performance of multiplier Onion (Allium cepa linn.) to mulching materials planted in between Duhat
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, 2012-03) Simon, Raquel T.
This study was conducted to determine the effects of mulching materials in the performance of multiplier onion planted in-between duhat. It was conducted at the Agoforestry Research and Demonstration Farm (ARDF), Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, North La Union Campus, Bacnotan La Union, from September 23, 2011 to November 23, 2011. The study was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four treatments and four blocks. The treatments used are the following: T1 = unmulched T2 = rice straw T3 = banana leaves T4 = corn stubbles The study revealed insignificant effects of mulching materials on the height of multiplier onions at 62 days after planting, number of bulblets and yield of multiplier onion in kilogram per plot and per hectare. Results also showed that the main crop had a height and crown diameter increment of 4.8 cm and 6.6 cm respectively during the 62-day period of the field experiment. Based on the results of the study, any of the mulching materials used can be used as mulch of multiplier onion planted in-between duhat.
