    Assessment of risk management of backyard Hog production in the Province of La Union.

    The study was conducted to determine ways of minimizing risks in hog production. Specifically the study aimed the following:1) to determine the cause of risk in hog production; 2) to determine the risk management practices of hog raising; 3) to assess the risks management factors in terms of; 3.a) physical risk; 3.b) business risk; 3.c) human risk;3. d) technological risks; and 3.e) natural risk. This study was conducted in selected municipalities of La Union. Data were gathered from 60 entrepreneurs in La Union were analyzed using frequency, percentages, and averages.Descriptive and qualitative research design were used in the study to evaluate the risk management practices of hog production in the province of La Union. Data were gathered through primary sources with the aid of questionnaire. The most serious causing risks were environment and inputs. Environment and input cannot be controlled by anybody. It is a natural phenomenon. Entrepreneurs were practicing ways to avoid and reduce risk in the business. All of them were applying the marketing management, production management and financial management to reduce risk.
