(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University- North La Union Campus, 2024-03) Sibayan, Joshua L.
Shading is agricultural practice that is widely used to control plant microclimate like light and temperature which are important factors affecting the growth and development of garlic. Hence this study was conducted to evaluate the performance of garlic varieties as affected by different shading materials at the Organic Agriculture Training and Demonstration Farm in Brgy. Baroro, Bacnotan, La Union on October 6 2022 to February 29, 2023. The study laid out in Split Plot in Randomized Complete Block Design, replicated three times. The different treatments were as follows: T0- No Shade; T1- White Feed Sack; T2- Feeds Sack Plastic; T3- Black Mesh Net, and the different varieties used were as follows: V1- Mexican, V2- Miracle, V3- Ilocos Pink. The study showed that garlic planted under feed sack shade recorded the highest plant height (59.48), number of leaves (11.79), bulb weight (14.67), fresh (22.6) and dry bulb yield (0.50). Ilocos Pink variety produced the highest leaf length (45.17), bulb weight (14.94), bulb diameter (3.44), fresh bulb yield (0.71) and dry bulb yield (0.45).
