(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, 2015-10) Ricanor, Christine Mae F.; Cabang, Leonida M.; Ciervo, Greg D.; Gacusana, Liela C.; Sotelo, Reyma A.
This study aimed to determine the status of selected Day Care centers in Bacnotan district in school year 2015-2016. The respondents of this study were six teachers and forty pupils of selected Day Care Centers of Bacnotan District. A developed questionnaire was used in gathering the data. Mean, standard deviation, and frequency counts and percentages were used in the computation of the data presented. The profile of teachers has an implication on how they teach children. The level of attainment of the standards and competencies of the respondents were highly attained. Based from the findings, the researchers have drawn the following conclusions: the teacher, who is young, female, single, has experience in teaching, receives good salary, multilingual, believes in God, finished Education course, and attended many trainings and seminars, is more capable and effective in teaching early childhood education. The level of attainment of the standards and competencies along the different areas of the pupils of the selected Day Care Centers of Bacnotan District is high. Based on the conclusions, the researchers recommend the following: the administrators of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) should follow the standardized salary of workers for the Day Care teachers for their decent living and commitment in pre-school education. To ensure a more meaningful instruction among young learners, the teacher should be young of age, God-fearing, and a graduate of Bachelor of Elementary Education Major in Pre-School Education with appropriate trainings and seminars. Day Care teachers should go for continuous professional education to equip them with relevant knowledge and skills in order to attain higher level of standards and competencies of the Day Care pupils. Strategic and engaging instruction should be employed in teaching Day Care pupils to increase the number of learners who will become literate and beneficial members of the society in the future. The parent’s should assure that their child will be properly cared of and that they should know how to choose the best educator for their child so that all the developmental domains of child will be properly developed.
