Publication Design, construction and test performance of Engine-powered Peanut sheller(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, 2013-03) Raboc, Rommel A.The study aimed to design, construct and test the performance of a peanut sheller machine.The design of this engine-powered peanut sheller was prepared from June to October 2012. This machine was constructed at the Farm Shop of the Agricultural Engineering Department, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, Bacnotan, La Union from December 2012 to February, 2013. The test performance was done at the Agricultural Engineering building, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, Bacnotan, La Union.The device consisted of the following parts: hopper, feed regulator, shelling mechanism, blower and the frame. It was designed for farmers producing peanut on large-scale. This peanut sheller has an initial cost of Php 14, 575.28 with an expected life span of 10 years.The cost analysis showed that shelling per kilogram is Php 2.22 as compared to manual shelling per kilogram is Php 4.00. Results of the study revealed that the highest shelling efficiency was 96.33% at T3 (301-350 revolutions per minute). The average percentage losses (blower loss, unshelled loss, scattering loss, conveying loss) were 24.43% with a shelling recovery of 85.59%.The average shelling capacity of the device was 41 kg per hour of peanut pods. The average performance efficiency of the machine was 93.71%.Based on the results of the study, the researcher recommends that modifications be made to attain higher performance.
