Okra leaf meal (Hibiscus esculentus linn.) as feed extender for Broilers
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, 2016-03) Rabaja, Meynard C.
The high cost of medicine for broiler is hindering the expansion of producing broiler hence, the need to explore alternative and locally available resource is utmost importance. One of such resources is okra which is one of the most commonly used medicinal plants against a wide range of diseases. The study was conducted at Poblacion, Bacnotan, La Union from November 19, 2015 to December 23, 2015 to determine the effect (5%, 10%, 15%) of Okra Leaf Meal as Feed Extender for Broilers; and to determine the most appropriate level of Okra Leaf Meal that give the highest possible return. Using the Randomize Complete Block Design (RCBD) in three blocks, sixty day old broilers (Cobb strain) were distributed randomly into four treatments. Based on the results of the study, birds fed with 5% to 15% of okra leaf meal as feed extender performed comparably with those birds given with pure feeds in terms of initial weight, final weight, gain in weight, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio and profit above feed, medicine and stock cost.
