Occurence of tuberculosis in goats (Capra hircus) raised in Ilocos Sur

This study was conducted to: (1) determine the occurrence of tuberculosis of goats raised in Ilocos Sur, (2) determine the goats affected with tuberculosis in Ilocos Sur considering the age; and (3) determine the goats affected with tuberculosis in Ilocos Sur considering sex. This study was conducted in ten (10) randomly selected municipalities in Ilocos Sur during the months of September to October, 2004. Eighty (80) goats were used in the study with the age and sex considered. The test includes a single intradermal injection of 0.1 ml Tuberculin Purified Protein Derivative Bovis at the caudal fold at the base of the tail, after which the test was interpreted after 72±6 hours by palpation and observation. The study revealed that there were no goats that reacted positively to tuberculin test in Ilocos Sur.
