Civil society organization participation in local governance: the case of Aringay, La Union

Participation of Civil Society Organizations in an LGU is essential to capacity¬ building and enhancement of its engagement with different activities and programs of the government. This study described and evaluated the participation of the Civil Society Organizations of Aringay, La Union in local governance and identified their training needs. With the use of researcher-made questionnaires, data gathered were analyzed using Likert scale, frequency count, and percentages, this research yielded the following results: CSO respondents were more or less homogenous in characteristics, there was a high participation of the CSOs in their engagement with the LGU executive, legislative and voluntary works; there were many strengths attributable to their active engagements with the LGUs although they found that there was a need to capacitate them to become better CSOs. Thus, this research offers a training program design which may be adopted by the BPA Department for its continuing extension programs for the CSOs in Aringay, La Union.
