Publication Innovative design and fabrication of ice crusher machine(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – Mid La Union Campus, 2026) Paragas, Abegail L.; Reyes, Jenina Michaela C.; Obra, Cristle Anne C.; Florendo, Darwin S.This research presents the design and fabrication of an ice crusher machine intended for fish vendors. The study was conducted at the College of Engineering of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University- Mid La Union Campus during the academic year 2025 2026. The main purpose of this project is to develop a machine that can crush ice efficiently while reducing manual effort and processing time. Traditional methods of ice crushing are often slow, labor-intensive, and inconsistent in producing uniform ice particles. To address these issues, a mechanical system powered by an electric motor and pedal-operated machine was designed and constructed. The crushing mechanism utilizes cylindrical metal with spikes to achieve efficiently crushed ice and improved performance. Materials such as pulley, belt, and metal plate were carefully selected to ensure durability, safety, and affordability. The fabrication process included measuring, cutting, assembling, and testing each component according to the planned design specifications. Performance testing was carried out to evaluate crushing capacity, operational speed, energy consumption, and safety features. Results showed that the machine can process approximately 4171.59 kilograms of crushed ice per hour through electric motor and 2825.86 kilograms of crushed ice per hour through pedal under normal operating conditions. The machine has high operational efficiency, producing crushed ice fast with minimal material loss, proving its functionality. In addition, safety measures such as a protective cover and stable base frame were incorporated to minimize potential hazards during operation. The developed prototype is recommended for use in fish market and fish port where a steady supply of crushed ice is required. In conclusion, the study demonstrates that the designed ice crusher machine is functional, cost-effective, and suitable for further improvement and large-scale application.
