    Quality of irrigation water along selected barangays of Sudipen, La Union

    The quality of irrigation water has a considerable impact on the types of crops that can be successfully grown, the productivity of these crops, water infiltration and other soil physical conditions. The study aimed to determine the quality of irrigation water in the selected barangays of Sudipen, La Union. Specifically, it identified the a) profile of the respondents; b) level of awareness on the effects of irrigation water to soil quality; and c) degree of seriousness of the problems encountered by farmers on irrigation water. The study made use of descriptive research design to obtain information from the respondents and status design to analyze the quality of irrigation water. Stratified random sampling was employed in the selection of respondents. There were 198 farmerrespondents interviewed with the aid of questionnaire and supplemented with personal observations. Frequency counts, percentages and means were used in the analysis of data. Water sampling and analysis was done to determine the quality of the irrigation water. Results of the study showed that farmers who are being served by irrigation water have meager incomes despite the practiced of two cropping in agricultural production. The quality of the irrigation water used is within the standards. The use of irrigation water in agricultural production was perceived to have effects on the soil quality. Moreover, farmers are experiencing problems regarding irrigation water.
