Molasses-treated corn stover and rice straw for growing goats
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, 2008-03) Pagaduan, Pheobe A.
The availability of quality feeds for ruminants is a problem during the dry season in Region I. On the other hand, rice straw and corn stover are available on these days. Hence, this study was conducted to determine the performance of growing grade goats fed molasses-treated corn stover and molasses-treated rice straw. It was conducted from May 1 to July 30, 2007 at the “Just Kidding Farm,” Burayoc, San Juan, La Union. Nine growing grade goats were randomly assigned to three treatments using the Completely Randomized Design replicated three times with one goat per replicate. Grade goats fed with pure napier performed comparably with goats fed molasses-treated corn stover plus napier and molasses-treated rice straw plus napier in terms of final weight, gain in weight, feed conversion efficiency and profit above stock and feed cost. On the other hand, molasses-treated rice straw and molasses-treated corn stover as supplement to napier grass significantly increased feed intake of goats.
