    Surveillance of african swine fever (asf) using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction in the first district of La Union

    This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of African Swine Fever in the First District of La Union using RT-PCR. Total pig population was acquired through the Department of Agriculture- Bureau of Animal Industry. A total of 138 blood samples of pigs were collected from the First District of La Union. The profile of pigs such as age, sex, and physiological status were identified. Pig samples were classified geographically into plain, hilly, or coastal. Blood samples were extracted using Wizard® Genomic DNA Purification Kit and qPCR assay was done using DLAB Accurate 96. Quantum GIS Version 1.8.0 as the software tool for the presentation of the geographical profile of the First District of La Union. Results revealed a prevalence rate of 0% for ASF from the blood samples collected in the First District of La Union.
