    Medical office staff competencies in district 1 hospitals in the province of La Union

    Competency is a combination of knowledge, skills, and behaviors used to effectively perform tasks to achieve specific objectives. This study determined the competencies of medical office staff in District 1 Hospitals in La Union. It sought to identify the profile, the level of competence, and the relationship between the profile and the level of competence of the respondents. Frequency counts and percentages were utilized to determine the profile, median interpretation to measure the level of competence, and Pearson Chi-Square for the relationship between the respondents' profile and the level of competence. Almost half are aged 31-40andare nurses in the nursing department, a great majority are female, the majority are married, have 1-10 years in service, and most are college graduates. The respondents are competent in terms of Communication, Organizational, Computer, Intrapersonal, and Records Management Skills and their educational attainment, job position, and hospital department affect the level of competence.
