Feasibility study of a Ten-Hectare Coconut-Goat integrated farming enterprise in San Juan, La Union.
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, 2012) Miranda, Catherine C.
Coconut is referred to as the tree of life because of its versatile contribution to mankind. Practically all parts and fruit of the coconut tree are usable in the form of food, beverage, medicines, fiber, handicrafts, coco lumber, prevention for soil erosion, and many more uses. (Bahala, 2009). In the Philippines, coconut plantations are mainly targeted for copra, coconut oil, coco shell charcoal, and activated carbon and coco chemicals. For its first seven months of 2011, the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) reported that values of coconut export totaled $1.22 billion, which 34.74 percent jump composed with the $908.72 million was earned in the same period in 2010. The increase in value of coconut export was attributed high global demand and prices in 2011. The average price of copra is $1,063.10 per MT, up from $754.79 in the same period in 2010 (Alave, 2011).
