Development and validation of happiness scale for filipino adolescents
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - South La Union Campus, 2018-05) Merza, Chester Alan R.
Happiness is a state of well-being and measuring it through a scale is necessary for self-awareness. This study is a descriptive-evaluative research type that employed quantitative measures of behavior. It aimed to develop and validate a happiness scale for Filipino adolescents. One-way ANOVA was utilized for the statistical difference while factor analysis for component reduction and identification. Findings showed that respondents’ profile is varied on adolescence fraction, sex, and grade level. Respondents are mostly happy because of frequent experience along the determinants of happiness. In the scale construction, it has two factors namely the Positive CogAffEx (Cognition-Affect-Experience) and Negative CogAffEx (Cognition-Affect-Experience). The scale has an acceptable reliability and validity. Raw score is converted into a stanine score for a more interpretable data. Moreover, there is no significant difference along the variable sex whereas the fraction of adolescence differed. Early adolescents were found to be significantly happier than middle adolescents.
