MATIAS, JUDELYN T. (2023). Botanical Insecticide on the Control of Green Bean Pod Borer Maruca spp. (Lepidoptera: Crambidae). Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Major in Crop Protection-Entomology. Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, North La Union Campus, College of Agriculture, Department of Crop Protection, Bacnotan, La Union. Adviser: Simon, Jeramil C., MSc. The bean pod borer (Maruca spp) causes great damage by infesting green bean pods worldwide. Thu, this study was conducted to determine the effective botanical insecticides against green bean pod borer. Specifically, the study aimed to assess the occurrence, incidence, and degree of damage of green bean pod borer as affected by botanical insecticide application; and evaluated the field efficacy of madre de cacao, levant nut, and neem leaf extract against green bean pod borer that would provide optimum yield. The experiment was conducted at Barangay Libbo, Bagulin, La Union from September to December, 2022. The randomized complete block design was used with five treatments (Control, Selecron, Madre de cacao leaf extract, Levant nut leaf extract, and Neem leaf extract) in 3 blocks. Botanical insecticide preparation was done by gathering fresh leaves, washing, chopping, fermenting in 24 hours, straining, and bottling as a stock solution for spraying. Madre de cacao, levant nut, and neem leaf extract reduced the incidence of green bean pod borer in the field. Thereby, a high number of uninfested pods were observed, resulting to optimum pod yield, with an average of 5,801.06kg/ha, 5,626.88kg/ha, and 5,343,39kg/ha from madre de cacao, levant nut, and neem leaf extract, respectively. Therefore, this botanical extracts are recommended as control for green bean pod borer in the field.
