    Sugarcane juder
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – Mid La Union Campus, 2024-12) Marzo, Aisha Jhyn B.; Catbagan, Patricia Jane L.; Emperador, Erica C.; Obra, Lei Allan Joseph N.; Soriano, Aeron C.
Farmers played a crucial role in society by ensuring food production, with sugarcane cultivation being a significant aspect of global agriculture. Sugarcane, a vital industrial crop, was cultivated primarily for its stem, which yielded sucrose for various purposes including sugar production, bioethanol, and bagasse. Despite its economic importance, smallholder sugarcane farmers faced challenges due to labor costs and outdated techniques. This study focused on addressing these challenges by designing and fabricating a Sugarcane Juder—a two-in-one machine that extracted juice from sugarcane while shredding the remaining bagasse. The research employed a developmental approach, integrating engineering design processes to create an efficient and cost-effective solution. The methodology involved observation, interviews, concept generation, planning, material procurement, fabrication, testing, evaluation, and revision. Performance tests measured the volume of juice extracted per unit weight of sugarcane stalks, production capacity, and mass of shredded bagasse. Statistical analysis, primarily using median values, was employed to compare data sets and assess the machine's efficacy. The study aimed to provide a practical solution to enhance sugarcane production efficiency, particularly for small-scale farmers, contributing to agricultural sustainability and economic development.
