Design, fabrication, and performance evaluation of dual-powered chili pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) tunnel dryer
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University- North La Union Campus, 2024-05) Mamaril, Aj Emmanuel G.; Rabaja, Angelita C.
The dried chili pepper is proven for its long lasting life for storage and for spices. In order to improve the constraints in traditional method, the chili pepper tunnel dryer must be mechanized. The study was conducted to design, fabricate and evaluate the performance of the chili pepper tunnel dryer. The performance of the machine was evaluated in terms of the drying rate, drying recovery and evaluate the color of processed dried chili pepper. The study utilized Completely Randomized Design with the following different temperature as the treatments: 40 oC, 50oC and 60oC. The best treatment based on the different parameters of dual-powered chili pepper tunnel dryer is treatment 2 (50 degrees celcius) with a drying rate of 0.1783 and drying recovery of 36.53% and redness of 160.67 of processed dried chili pepper. The cost analysis revealed Break Even Points of 15.41 kg/y, Payback Periods of 25 productive days and Benefit Cost Ratio of 1.93 for T2
