Rabies awareness of public grade school pupils and teachers in the second district of La Union
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, 2014-03) Libunao, Jewel C.
Previous survey of rabies awareness revealed that 15% of rabies patients have learned about rabies at school. Since majority of rabies victims are school-age children, awareness of pupils and teachers need assessment to identify the main gaps in rabies information and define the urgent information and actions to be undertaken for rabies educational campaigns. Descriptive survey was used in gathering data carried out in 32 selected schools with a total of 420 pupils and 120 teacher respondents. The pupils were “aware” while the teachers were “much aware” on the different aspects of rabies. Same respondents were “moderately aware” with R.A. 9482 Section 5C. The educational attainment, monthly income of parents and number of years in teaching of the teachers didn’t improve their level of awareness. The level of awareness of pupils in 1st and 2nd District of La Union shows that they were “aware” about the different aspect of rabies.
