    Varying levels of crude protein for broilers

    Crude protein, which is a high-priced nutrient, plays an important role in the growth and development of any living organism. Hence, the study was conducted to determine the performance of broilers fed with varying levels (17.81%; 18.98%; 19.70%; 20.94%; 21.88%) of crude protein at Sapilang, Bacnotan, La Union from September 27 to November 8, 2011. Ninety day-old chicks were used in the study employing the RCBD in three blocks. The birds were distributed in six treatments. Results of the study revealed that birds fed with home-mixed rations having crude protein content ranging from 17.81% to 21.88% had comparable performance with those birds fed with commercial broiler starter mash in terms of cost of feed to produce a kilogram weight. Birds fed with commercial broiler starter mash performed significantly better than those birds fed with home mixed feeds containing 17.81% to 21.88% CP in terms of final weight, gain in weight, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio and profit above feed, medicine and stock cost
