Item Intervention support program for students at risk of dropping out using fuzzy logic-based prescriptive analytics(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2021-03) De Jesus, Cindy; Ledda, Mark KristianEducation is perceived to be an inevitable impact in building one’s nation and presumed to be a significant factor of one’s success. However, the issue with increasing school dropouts in secondary schools continue to persist worldwide despite this notion. This study aimed to design and develop an intervention support program for students at risk of dropping using prescriptive analytics for the Department of Education. It identified factors affecting students to drop such as family, individual, community and school related factors. Based from these factors, appropriate types of intervention programs were determined through focus group discussions with secondary school teachers and guidance counselors. A web-based intervention support program system was developed with the use of Fuzzy Logic-Based prescriptive analytics. First, the system predicts students at risk of dropping through the identified factors as inputs such as written work, performance task, quarterly exam, tardiness, absences, and results from the students’ guidance profiling. Second, based from the results of the prediction, the system’s fuzzy inference mechanism determines both the intervention applicability and effectivity in order to provide suitable intervention prescription as the system’s final output. The study found out that students who are at risk of dropping can be identified earlier with the correct inputs in the developed system and appropriate interventions vary from one student to another. Thus, the study is found to be useful in addressing the issue with increasing school dropouts by prescribing suitable intervention programs.Publication Online couseling system of Circle of Peer Counselors (OCS-CPC)(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – Mid La Union Campus, 2009-10) Carrera, Marydel F.; Esquita, Jo-Anne M.; Hailar, Leah Marie M.; Hufana, Jahzeel B.; Itchon, Janine Marie E.; Pajarillaga, Jennifer B.; Nisperos, Zhella Anne V.; Rodriguez, Maylen D.; Ledda, Mark Kristian; Badon, Ralph VincentOnline Counseling refers to the provision of counseling services concerns via Internet Communication Technology (ICT). The traditional way of counseling is done face to face but nowadays; counseling may be done online due to the modem technologies. This study is directed towards the development of an online counseling system to meet the following objectives: to develop a website for the Circle of Peer Counselors of DMMMSU-MLUC; to provide an online counseling system of the said organization. The researchers’ aim is to develop an Online Counseling System for Circle of Peer Counselor of DMMSMSU-MUC to implement a better and easy counseling for the students. The researchers will determine first the status of the existing system, profile of the respondents, factors to be considered to develop an online counseling system and the level of functionality of the proposed system. This study will use the descriptive and developmental method of research The researchers will use the interview, questionnaires and the waterfall model in the system development life cycle as method of collecting data. The respondents consist of the following: CPC adviser, Peer Counselors, and students of DMMMSU-MLUC. Based on the study, the researchers found out that the existing system of CPC adopts the traditional of counseling and other transactions were done manually. The researchers analyzed and interpreted the profile of the respondents in terms college/ department, gender, year level and status. The respondents strongly agreed that the factors to be considered to develop a system are accessibility, effectiveness, privacy of records and time constraints. The level of functionality of the online counseling system was found out by the researchers that the respondents strongly agree to the main indicators presented by the researchers such as the system’s attractiveness, consistency, control, error prevention and control, feedback, helpfulness, and learnability.
