(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, 2005-03) Hermosa, Francis O.
Castration is an issue in the production of heavier carcass in swine. Hence, this study on the performance of castrated and non-castrated piglets at 10 days old until they reach 20 kilograms was conducted at DMMMSU Piggery Project, North La Union Campus, Bacnotan, La Union from September 20, 2004 to December 19, 2004. The data gathered were analyzed using the T-test. Result of the study showed that non-castrated piglets significantly reached the weight of 20 kg at an earlier age (50.44 days) and had significantly higher daily gain in weight of 0.4/kg. than the castrated piglets 0.37 kg. Further, castrated piglets consumed higher amount of feeds compared to uncastrated piglets.
