Growth and yield performance of kale (Brassica oleracea var. palmifolia) under different hydroponic systems''
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University- North La Union Campus, 2024-05) Gonzales, Charmaine O.; Delim, Krisha Rochelle G.; Orine, Zharinel F.
Cultivating High-Value Crops is essential due to their high nutritional and market value. However, traditional land-based farming methods are more complex. A more convenient and efficient system for growing crops like hydroponics and vertical gardening saves time, effort, and resources. The study aimed to determine the effect of different hydroponic systems on the growth and yield of Kale. The research used a Completely Randomized Design with three treatments: NFT, DWC, Tower-type hydroponics, and three replications. Results showed no significant difference in growth and yield among treatments, with weights ranging from 26.00g to 34.78g, leaf numbers from 14.34 to 16.22, heights from 27.08cm to 32.40cm, and leaf areas from 34.15cm2 to 38.38cm2. The payback period per cropping season for NFT was 10, 15 for Tower type, and 11 for DWC, with benefit cost ratios of 1.48 for NFT, 0.99 for Tower type, and 1.3 for DWC.
