(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - Mid La Union Campus, 2024-05) Carolino, Madeline C.; Ancheta, Alona D.; Balcita, Alyssa Jewelle M.; Gomez, Irish Mae T.; Reyes, May F.
The Palit Basura Project, a waste management initiative in the City of San Fernando, La Union, relies heavily on the active engagement of barangay residents and officials. This study described and analyzed the contribution, problems encountered, and sustainability of the project. It involved the City Environment and Natural Resources Office and 177 beneficiaries who participated in the project during the 2022-2023 period across 10 barangays of the City of San Fernando, La Union. The finding shows that the project is contributory in terms of sanitation, health, environmental protection, and energy efficiency. Moreover, the strategies implemented for the sustainability of the project are 1) inclusion of the project, 2) production of Information, Education, and Communication materials, and 3) development strategies. Challenges like time constraints, linkages with stakeholders, and the absence of barangay resident’s cooperation persist. Hence, the policy brief formulated is strongly recommended to enhance the project’s effectiveness.
