Climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction and management in selected communities in the municipality of San Juan, La Union
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, 2017-05) Deleña, Alvic V.; Ganaden, Ma. Rhodora B.
The study was conducted to determine the awareness, implementation and seriousness of the problems encountered on Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) in the upland, lowland and coastal areas of San Juan, La Union. Respondents were selected using stratified random sampling and data were gathered using a constructed questionnaire substantiated by key informant interviews. Descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, percentages and means were used as statistical tools for data analysis. Based on the results, the respondents are dominated by males who obtained formal education in the secondary level with enough income to sustain their lives. Respondents have enough knowledge about the issues, causes, problems and the impacts of climate change and disasters. They also implement several activities geared towards CCA and DRRM. Problems are often financial and organizational in nature which served as basis for a proposed action plan.
