Trichantera (Trichantera gigantea) leaf meal as feed extender for broiler ration
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, 2010-03) Gallebo, Florante M.
One way of reducing the cost of feed in broiler raising is to extend using feedstuff like trichantera. The study was conducted to determine the best level of trichantera (6%, 12% and 18%) as feed extender to broiler rations. It was conducted at the Poultry Project of the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, College of Agriculture, North La Union Campus, Sapilang, Bacnotan, La Union on August 23, 2009 to September 27, 2009. Sixty heads (14-day old) broiler chicks were used in the study employing the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four treatments replicated three times. Result of the study revealed that the birds fed with ration containing 6% trichantera leaf meal performed significantly better than those birds fed with pure broiler starter mash in terms of feed consumption and feed conversion efficiency, however the birds fed with ration containing 12% to 18% trichantera leaf meal had comparable results in terms of final weight, gain in weight and profit above feed, medicine and stock cost.
