Farmers' response to the rice crop insurance program in the selected barangays of Bagulin, La Union
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University- North La Union Campus, 2024-05) Galate, May Anne C.
Rice farming is very vulnerable to natural disasters, pests, and diseases. The rice crop insurance program helps farmers mitigate these risks by providing compensation for crop losses. This study was conducted to determine the farmers’ awareness, satisfaction with availment, and problems encountered by the farmers in availing the rice crop insurance program. Most of the rice farmers in Bagulin finished elementary education and are married. Most farmers manage farms with an approximately 0.5 hectares and practice a single cropping cycle annually. Results revealed that not all farmers who applied for indemnity received payment for their crop losses. Most participating farmers recognize the importance of the rice crop insurance program and express high satisfaction with the efficiency of the application process. Further, common problems encountered by the farmers in availing of rice crop insurance were the lengthydelay in receiving the indemnity and insufficient amount to cover the damages to crops.
