    Teaching strategies in mathematics: basis for a sustainability plan

    This study assessed the extent of teaching strategy in intermediate mathematics in Second District of La Union for the S.Y. 2024 — 2025. This study used quantitative descriptive correlational research approach which included 85 mathematics teachers from the second district of the Schools Division of La Union. These teachers were from the central schools in Second District of the La Union Division. The study found that Mathematics teachers were mostly mid-career males with significant teaching experience and graduate-level education, yet they showed limited participation in recent training, especially beyond the local level. Their preferred teaching methods were cooperative learning and explicit instruction, with a clear inclination toward active, student-centered approaches like game-based, problem-based, and multisensory learning. Factors such as age, sex, teaching position, and experience influenced their choice of instructional strategies, while educational background and civil status did not. National-level seminar participation was beneficial for implementing cooperative learning, while other seminar types had little to no impact. The teachers faced similar challenges in implementing various instructional strategies. Based on these findings, a sustainability plan was proposed to provide tailored, long-term professional development, supporting teachers in using diverse, student-centered approaches effectively in their Mathematics classrooms.
