Publication Echoes of change:(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-Mid La Union Campus, 2024-12) Erece, Irish Anne G.; Gapuz, Clarice Geverah B.; Munar, Kazvin Caira D.; Rillera, Jenilyn V.; Valentin, Erica C.This study investigated the lived experiences of empty nest widows in late adulthood, employing a qualitative methodology with a phenomenological research design. The researchers conducted semi-structured face-to-face interviews to collect data from eight participants residing in various barangays in the City of San Fernando, La Union, using purposive sampling for the selection of participants. Thematic analysis was applied to interpret the gathered data. Key findings indicated that the transformations experienced by widows in late adulthood upon entering the empty nest phase included Lifestyle Adjustments, Physical Limitations, and Financial Dependency. Regarding the impact of the empty nest phase on the psychological well-being of these widows, they faced Silent Struggles, Uncontrolled Emotions, and a Decreased Sense of Connection. The coping mechanisms employed by these widow empty nesters encompassed Organizational Involvement, Strengthened Social Relationships, Recreational Activities, and Religious Beliefs.
