Science teachers’ assessment on the stem strand implementation in the diocese of Baguio schools

The STEM Strand in senior high school is grounded on teaching students to apply math, science, engineering, and technology to solve real-world problems by fostering critical thinking and collaboration. This study determined the perception of STEM teachers in the implementation of STEM Strand in the Diocese of Baguio Schools. The descriptive quantitative approach was used to describe the status of the STEM strand, with the questionnaire as the main tool in gathering data. The study was administered to 67 STEM teachers in the four diocesan schools that cater for the STEM strand. Most of the STEM teachers are BSE graduates; attended national and regional seminars and had 1-10 years of teaching experience. The academic performance of STEM students was very satisfactory. Teaching strategies were all moderately implemented and assessment was considered important in determining the academic performance and the alignment of instruction. Laboratory apparatuses and equipment were adequate, as well as library resources. The administration’s support was found to be fairly supportive in terms of budget allocation but found supportive in terms of professional development. A development plan was proposed to address gaps in instruction, resources, and professional development.
