Publication Organic Fertilizer with effective microorganisms (OFEM) and laundry water as a novel environment friendly treatment for pechay (Brassica rapa) growth(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University- North La Union Campus, 2024-06) Ancheta, Ranger Robin B.; Costales, Marrianne A.; Emran, Babylove L.The wastewater from laundry is a common household waste that can lead to environmental pollution. Through the process of biodegradation, microorganisms in the soil can degrade chemical compounds that cause pollution in plants. Microorganisms are essential for converting these chemical nutrients from waste laundry water into forms that can be readily absorbed by plants. These microorganisms break down complex organic compounds and harmful chemicals into simpler, less toxic substances. By doing this, they release essential nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, which are important for plant growth. This study evaluated the growth performance of pechay under different treatments, focusing on the effects of organic fertilizer with effective microorganisms (OFEM) and laundry wastewater. The experiment used a randomized complete block design with six treatments, replicated four times. The results revealed no significant differences in leaf area index, root length, and fresh biomass. However, final height and nitrogen content were significantly affected by OFEM with 100mL waste laundry water (T1). OFEM with tap water significantly influenced dried biomass. Soil analysis indicated increased macronutrients (OM, P, K) and a slight pH decrease after treatments. T1 also showed the highest increase in soil bacteria population, suggesting that beneficial microbes from laundry wastewater enhance pechay growth, soil fertility, and microorganism colonies. This highlights the potential of using laundry wastewater in sustainable agriculture.
