Item Pneumatic tin can compactor(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - Mid La Union Campus, 2024-05) Cariaso, Michael Angelo C.; Andrada, Cyverscent P.; Dumo, Fraulyne Rayne C.; Galvez, Faye Lyza M.; Picardo, Ayra Y.; Meana, Melchor A.; Armiendo, Mary Jean C.; Aquino, Eric C.; Cabradilla, Bonifacio C.The main object of this study was to use tin cans as the primary material for compaction caused by the abundance of tin cans within the country; hence, the study's compaction strategies were used to reduce their expansive volume. By repurposing these widespread waste cans, the study aims to contribute to sustainable waste management practices and reduce the environmental impact of excessive tin can disposal. The machine dimensions, 1738mmx500mmxl000mm, include three sections which were the upper section, where the pneumatic cylinder or the conversion of compressed air energy to a reciprocating linear motion is located; the middle section, where the compaction process occurs; and the lower section serves as the supporting structure of the machine and where the air compressor is located. Several trials and analyses found that these compactors can reduce the size of cans by 60% to 70%, aiding in efficient space storage, waste transportation, and waste management. This proof of concept emphasizes the importance of pneumatic tin can compactors as a feasible tool for reducing tin can growth and advancing sustainable waste reduction programs.
