Development and evaluation of serpentina (Androsraphis paniculata) leaves dyestuff
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - Mid La Union Campus, 2023-05) Delos Santos, Mhel Anthonete S.; Abrio, Rochelle M.; Aliwa, Jane Carlene S.; Anquillano, Hanna Trisha S.; Camarao, Jinefer S.; Ducusin, Ivy C.; Ducusin, Rodessa Shairalyn C.; Cabanban, Maybel S.; Nillosguin, Joyce N.; Palabay, Victorio C.; Corpuz, Juanito C.; Tumbaga, Elizabeth B.
The advent of synthetic dyes replaced natural dyes. However, due to toxicity issues, it increases the demand for natural dyes. The study aimed to develop and evaluate the dyestuff from serpentina leaves dyestuff applied to the textile material, determine the color value, evaluate the colorfastness to sunlight, and determine the significant differences in mordant used (Alum and Ferrous Sulphate) and boiling time (30 minutes - 30 minutes and 30 minutes - 60 minutes). The study used the developmental-descriptive-evaluate research design. The statistical tool used was the weighted mean. For the colorfastness properties, a questionnaire was used. A mobile application (color grab) was used to determine the color value. Findings show that the color value of the dyed poplin fabric yielded orange red to brown shades. The evaluation of the colorfastness to washing and colorfastness to sunlight was a good performance, and no significant difference existed in terms of mordant and boiling time.
