Situating the role of women in aquaculture industry in the second District of La Union
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – Mid La Union Campus, 2024-05) Cariaso, Pedro G., Jr.; Delfin, Czyrus Ivan R.; Delmendo, Dilsky Mae E.; Peralta, Karla Mae T.; Rulloda, Michael Christian M.; Ancheta, Marife D.; Pajimola, Allan Hil B.; Flores, Christian Kent E.; Quinitip, Tiffany Ruth R.; Siong, Venus D.
Women are integral to the aquaculture industry's growth and sustainability; their diverse responsibilities highlight their vital contributions. This descriptive study assessed the profile, involvement, and problems encountered by women in the aquaculture industry in the Second District of La Union and the assistance the Local Government Unit extended to them. Data were gathered from 38 respondents in Aringay, Agoo, Santo Tomas, and Tubao municipalities using questionnaires, informal interviews, and documentary analyses. The findings show that most respondents are 56 years old, high school graduates, married, and have been in the industry for 20 years and above. Women respondents are mostly involved in harvesting, fish processing, and selling. The most common problem the respondents encounter is limited access to financial services. Their local government units extended webinars/seminars to capacitate them. Furthermore, the policy brief formulated is strongly recommended to address the issue of financial services.
