Performance of broilers fed with home-mixed feeds

The high cost of commercial feeds prompted poultry raisers to look for alternative sources of feeds such a formulating feeds mixing different ingredients. This study was conducted to determine the performance of broilers fed with homemixed feeds. This was conducted at Barangay Casiaman, Bacnotan, La Union from December 1, 2013 to January 4, 2014. A total of 80 heads of a 14 day old broiler chicks were distributed randomly in four treatments following the RCBD in four blocks. Results revealed that the final weight and gain in weight of birds fed with home-mixed feeds containing 21% rice bran was comparable to those birds fed with pure BSM. As to the feed consumption and feed conversion ratio, birds fed with home-mixed feeds and pure BSM were comparable with each other. However, the profit above feed, medicine and stock cost of birds fed with homemixed feeds containing 18% and 21% rice bran were significantly higher than those fed with pure BSM.
