Efficacy of crude leaf extract spray and patch against mosquitoes
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, 2016-03) Dacones, Geraldine G.
This study determined the efficacy of 60 percent crude leaf extract spray of Hagonoy (Chromolaena odorata), Lantana (Lantana camara), and Neem (Azadirachta indica) against mosquitoes, most effective spray and patch and duration of repellency of the patch. The spray and patch were distributed into Tj, Tz, Ts with To-, and To+ as control replicated three times following CRD. Data were statistically analyzed using the ANOVA and DMRT. Sixty percent crude leaf extract, oil, water and dish washing liquid were mixed and sprayed into the chamber containing 50 mosquitoes, observed for one hour. Nine pieces of cotton cloth soaked in 60 percent extract were applied to the abdomen of white rat observed in the chamber containing 50 mosquitoes until one mosquito had a successful blood meal. The three leaf extract sprays were 100 percent effective at varying exposure time. Lantana was the most effective. Hagonoy patch repelled mosquitoes for 3.67; lantana, 5.67 and Neem, 7.33. Neem was the most effective.
