Prevalence and surveillance map of fasciolosis via fecal egg count among backyard goats (Capra hircus) in Aringay, La Union

This research study was conducted to determine the prevalence rate, identify the barangay with the highest prevalence rate, ascertain the intensity of infection, and present a surveillance map of the disease in Aringay, La Union. Using a cross-sectional study, 322 goat fecal samples were randomly examined for the presence of Fasciola species in 24 barangay. Fasciola eggs were identified and determined using sedimentation technique under a light microscope. The results demonstrated that the prevalence rate of Fasciola spp. egg infection was 16%. There are positive cases in 12 different barangay, with San Juan West, Sto. Rosario East, San Juan East, and Sto. Rosario West having the greatest prevalence rates. The fecal egg count was used to gauge the intensity of infection, and the data showed a low infection rate. On a surveillance map, the barangay with confirmed cases and its intensity of fasciolosis were displayed.
