Land use land cover change mapping of Bacnotan, La Union using Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing
(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, 2023-05) Castillo, Jepher O.; Fernandez, Randy N.
Land use land cover (LULC) change has been the subject of research in recent years because it serves as a basis in land management planning. This study utilizes QGIS and remote sensing to detect and analyze the LULC in 2010, 2015, and 2020 in Bacnotan, La Union. Research findings showed that forest areas cover the most areas in the study site. There have also significant changes in built-up areas as the locality shift to industrialization leading to the rise of establishments, roads, and settlements. The water bodies also changed from 2010-2020. Through this study, comprehensive maps of the LULC in 2010, 2015, and 2020 were crafted. It is recommended that these maps will serve as the basis for crafting a risk reduction management plan as well as land planning on LULC.
