Publication Molecular detection of African Swine Fever (ASF) in blood samples from slaughterhouses in the Second District of La Union(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University North La Union Campus, 2025-04) Cariaso, Vladys Claire C.With the devastating impact o African Swine Fever worldwide, particularly on food security, pork production, animal health, and the economy, this study aimed to determine the prevalence rate of African Swine Fever using pig blood samples in the Second District of La Union. The sample size was determined using the Lynch formula. Sixty-eight (68) pig blood samples were collected from the selected municipalities of the Second District of La Union.. DNA content was quantified with a NanoDrop UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. A gel documentation system evaluated the quality of DNA, and blood samples were analyzed for African Swine Fever by the DLAB Accurate 96. Results revealed that the prevalence rate of African Swine Fever was zero percent (0%). Thus, the epidemiological map could not be developed from the data. This finding provides valuable baseline information for African Swine Fever detection and may indicate the effectiveness of current biosecurity and disease prevention measures.
