    High dose effects of medicinal herb extracts on the gross pathology and histopathology of broiler chicken

    Herbal plants and their extract can support both health and performance either individually or as a combined mixture to boost the bird’s performance This study was conducted to determine the high dose effect of medicinal herb extracts on the macroscopic and microscopic morphology of kidney and liver of broiler chicken. Fifty-four (54) broiler chickens were divided into six treatment groups at random. Each treatment group had three replicates each with three birds. The treatments were as follows: T0(-) plain drinking water, T0(+) antibiotic growth promoter, T1 turmeric extract, T2 oregano extract, T3 lemongrass extract, and T4 aloe vera gel. To summarize the qualitative data obtained the means were computed. Experimental results showed that herbal extracts with a dose of 2000mg per kg bw, administered in drinking did not have a direct effect on the liver and kidney and cannot produce significant pathological changes.
