Publication Native plant species diversity in Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus forest reserve(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus, 2023-05) Javier, Julie Ann L.; Cabato, Marc Jeo D.Native plants are plants that grow naturally in a particular area or ecosystem that fill a particular role or niche. The study was conducted to determine the native plant species diversity in Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus forest reserve. The study was conducted using descriptive statistics. There were four (4) selected areas within DMMMSU-NLUC forest reserve utilized in the study. There were 322 native tree species, 760 native non-timber plant species, and 554 native undergrowth species recorded in the study area. Results showed that in native tree species, the highest relative density was observed in Malapapaya, while the highest relative frequency was obtained by Mangga, for native non-timber plants species the highest relative density and relative frequency was obtained by Chinese Evergreen, and for undergrowth native plants species Paragis obtained the highest relative density, relative frequency, and importance value. Distribution Maps were used to illustrate the diversity of native plant species in the study area. Satellite images used in the study were obtained from Geoportal Philippines. The presence of diverse native plant species promotes ecological resilience, helps to maintain soil health, and provides habitat for a wide range of species.
