(Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – Mid La Union Campus, 2015-10) Almoite, Jolly Joy A.; Burns, Angielica R.; Cabanglan, Rodolfo G. Jr.,; Castro, Ma. Denisse C.; De Guzman, Sarah J.; Gille, Jillaine D.
Environmental governance has been pivotal to achieve sustainable development. A great challenge among the cities all over the world is how to maintain a sound and healthful ecology amidst urbanization. Hence, this descriptive-qualitative research was conducted to determine the different environmental sustainability strategies employed in the City of San Fernando, La Union. Using a questionnaire-checklist survey, further substantiated by documentary analysis, key informant interview and on-site observation, the study yielded that the city has a sustainability vision that covers pollution prevention, product stewardship and clean technology; their city vision is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound. Strategies for pollution prevention and product stewardship are generally present in the City, however there are still to be done and procured in terms of clean technology strategies.
